

Hair comb with 14 tines of black palmwood and a distinctively split handle with 2 tines.
Comb ornament of separate sticks bound with fibre and consolidated with putty. Combs of this type are characteristic of southeast Solomon Islands, particularly Makira and Ulawa but also south Malaita. Label reads: Oceania Norfolk Island. MADE IN SOLOMON ISLANDS. Norfolk Island was a base to which the Melanesian Mission brought trainee Christians and artefacts collected in the islands.
