Oval brass box of chased work with hinged lid and lock attached with copper studs. Base is similary attached. Outer sides decorated with a central band of vegetal meanders between rows of dentate motifs. Lid embellised with the figure of a mythological beast surrounded by similar bands to those on sides. Metal ring at centre of lid. Accompanying old display label reads: ' BRASS BOX Chased, of Tamil work. From Ceylon.'
