Round, turned ivory disks marked with engraved Chinese characters: 1 general (jiang), 1 marshal (shuai), 4 counselors (shi), 2 elephants (xiang), 1 minister (xiang), 3 horses (ma), 4 chariots (pronounced 'ju' or 'che'), 2 cannons (pao), 2 catapults (pao), 10 soldiers (consisting of 6 'zu' and 4 'bing'); either filled with blue paste within red circle or vice versa.
