bird call

Bamboo bird call, 'gukut'. One long narrower tube of bamboo secured at an angle to a shorter, wide tube that is cut open along the side at one end. The angle is fixed by the narrow tube passing through a wooden eye hook, the straight end of which passes through a hole cut in each side of one end of the wide bamboo, secured with a piece of black gum resin on the inside. The two tubes of bamboo are also tied together with strips of cane, next to and tied to the wooden eye-hook. The wide short bamboo has one side cut away, in a curved decorative style. There is a small hole further along on the middle of the open side, just in front of the bamboo nodule, and before the eye-hook. The long bamboo was fixed with resin to project away at this point, next to the hole. Much of the resin now missing.
