Scabbard made of wood covered with tortoise shell, mounted with engraved brass fittings with two loops. The brass fittings are engraved with the 'shou' character (meaning longevity) surrounded by bats. Bat is pronounced as 'fu' in Chinese, a homophone of 'fu' (blessing). By combining these two auspicious motifs, 'fu' and 'shou' symbolise 'blessing' and 'longevity'.
