knife money (currency & wealth)

Cast bronze knife-shaped coin, dao bi, flat with a loop on the curved handle. The blade is inscribed in archaic Chinese script, "Qi fa hua" meaning 'legal currency of Qi' on the obverse, and 'gong' meaning work on the reverse. The coin was minted in the State of Qi, now Shandong province, around 550-450 BC.
