sample (textileworking: dyeing & printing); textile

Rectangular sample of semi-transparent woven cotton textile decorated with resist-dyed floral motifs. The longer sides of the textile consist of the selvedges. One shorter side has been folded over to form a hem, the other one is unfinished. The wax for the small floral resist motif appears to have been stencilled on in long rows before the textile was dyed pink. The edges have been dyed blue-black afterwards, forming an irregular border. Some of the stencilling has rubbed off forming faint shadows on the reverse.
