There will be tree works in the Gardens this week – please follow signs on site. The lift will be out of service until Friday 28 June while we work on a replacement.
A snow scraper formed of two pieces of worked antler, a long curved one and a shorter one worked to a point at one end. The two are attached to one another by a length of hide which is looped around the end of the longer bone and knotted at both sides of an aperture in the shorter one.
These objects are only a part of our collections, of which there are more than 350,000 objects. This information comes from our collections database. Some of this is incomplete and there may be errors. This part of the website is also still under construction, so there may be some fields repeated or incorrectly formatted information.
The database sometimes uses language taken from historical documents to help research, which may now appear outdated and even offensive. The database also includes information on objects that are considered secret or sacred by some communities.
