Text from Travellers Official Information Bureau in Batavia reads as follows: Javanese actor impersonating Arjuna. In the plates of the local plays Arjuna is usually the young hero. These plays are based on a locally adopted version of the Mahabharata and the Familiar Hindu heroes have been freely borrowed by the Javanese and incorporated into purely local tales and settings.
