Thro (or tro) and bow. A bowed stringed instrument with a large fiddle-shaped body. The table and back arched, the ribs with shoulders and various openings. The neck short and surmounted by a large elaborately carved head embodying a peg-box to carry the three massive flat-headed (not uniform) pegs. Three cord strings (one coloured red) attached by a stout orange-coloured cord to a large turned tail-piece. The head coloured red and gold. The body and neck painted or lacquered black. The bridge and a set of spare strings in a blue fabric bag attached. Accompanied by a bow, shaped at one end to form a simple integral frog. Fabric bindings on the frog and middle of stick. Horse-hair (black) attached by fabric cord at frog end into which the hair is plaited.
