321.32-71 Necked lutes sounded by bowing with a bow

Plucked or bowed (sarangi type) lute carved from a single block piece of wood, and incised wiith geometrical patterns. The skin table is nailed to the lower section of the resonator with wooden dowels, the trapezoid-shaped upper section is open, with a heart-shaped cavity. A wooden post forms the integral inferior string-holder The remnants of four strings are tied to the string holder. Another string is attached to the left-hand side of the skin table, possibly for the attachment of a plectrum.

Possibly made originally as a one-stringed fiddle and later converted to a plucked lute.
