Bronze crotal, possibly an ekirei, station or post bell of octagonal cross-section, with eight rectangular panels on the sides, the largest two each containing a Japanese character. Four feet on the base. The slit extends up the sides to holes. Single large metal pellet. The bell is stepped at the top, with a loop attached to a later hinged metal handle, engraved with floral designs. The top of the handle is hollow convex disc, with holes emanating from centre.
