Skull of a Weddell Seal (Leptonychotes weddellii).
One of two seal skulls collected by H. R. 'Bob' Young in the vicinity of Little America on the Ross Ice Shelf during Richard E. Byrd's second Antarctic Expedition, stationed at Little America from January 1934 to February 1935. The expedition's biologist Alton Lindsey noted on 25 July 1934 that he started photographing seal skulls which had been cleaned by Young.
These objects are only a part of our collections, of which there are more than 350,000 objects. This information comes from our collections database. Some of this is incomplete and there may be errors. This part of the website is also still under construction, so there may be some fields repeated or incorrectly formatted information.
