According to Edward Hart, writing on 8 April 1927, 'Middle (no 1): adult female, February 29th 1864; right (no 2): adult male, January 25th 1864, five young. Shot by me on River Avon, Christchurch. Sexes differ, summer and winter plumage, male the same, female differ. Mounted by me'.
