According to Edward Hart, writing on 1 May 1927, 'Left (no 1): adult male, April 28th 1879; right (no 2): immature female, August 1860. No 1 shot by H. Preston at Redcliffe Meadow, no 2 shot by me in Christchurch Harbour. Sexes alike, summer and winter plumage the same. Mounted by me'.
