According to Edward Hart, writing on 9 May 1927, 'Left (no 1): variety with yellow legs, male, November 29th 1876. Was shot off Southbourne by Mr. T. M. Pike; right (no 2): white variety, male, November 6th 1888. Was shot by me in Christchurch Harbour. Mounted by me'.
