According to Edward Hart, writing on 6 April 1927, 'Bottom left (no 1): adult male, October 1877, summer plumage; top left (no 2): adult male, October 1877, summer plumage; top right (no 3): adult male, July 1883, summer plumage; bottom right (no 4): adult female, October 1883, summer plumage; nest and five eggs, May 1883. All obtained by Edward Hart at Bure, near Christchurch. Sexes differ, summer and winter plumage differ. Mounted by me'.
