sample (textileworking: barkcloth making); textile; tapa

Rectangular sample of cream barkcloth with black and brown painted decoration. The textile appears to be part of a larger cloth as some of the patterns are incomplete. The decoration consists of 2 narrow bands with 2 dotted lines separated and framed by solidly coloured lines, and several wider bands. One of these contains diagonals. The other contains 3 bands of short, wide diagonals framed by several solidly coloured bands of varying widths. At one shorter end is a stripe decorated with a reciprocate dentate pattern created by unevenly spaced grid lines.
