toy (ceremonial artefacts & rank insignia); spinning top

A round wooden spinning top with a long stem at the top and a square slot in the side of the body. The whole of the surface is painted in various techniques. The main body has a green, yellow and orange mottled pattern, with a black band around the centre with a decorative floral motif. This has been made by cutting into the black layer of paint, revealing red and green beneath. The underside of the spinning top is green in the centre surrounded by a thick green band.
At the top is a portruding carved circle which the stem rises up from, This is painted red with black bands, though much of the paint here has been lost.
