Zapotec funerary vase in the shape of a seated figure with an elaborate headdress and necklace. It would have been placed at the entrance to a tomb. The vessel has been partly reconstructed, and repair marks can be seen especially on the back. Almost certainly a late 19th or early 20th century fake.
There is a white rectangular label stuck to the back of the vase, reading: 'Put at tomb entrance circa 600 A.D. Zapotec Oaxaca Mexico.' An exhibition label with the object reads: 'Vessel in figurine form. Placed at tomb entrance. Zapotec, c.600 A.D. Oaxaca.'
