sheath (ceremonial weapon)

Japanese ceremonial sword sheath, made of carved ivory. It curves slightly to follow the shape of the sword. The ivory has been carved all over with scenes of people and landscapes, and with bands of geometric designs. An ivory hoop for suspension projects from the middle of the sheath.

There is a blue-grey rectangular label with the object, which reads ' Removed from Library. 15th / 12th / 1950'.
