shoestring; hanao

Shoestring (Bamboo). One of a pair of bamboo straps, used to attach to geta or zori shoes. Unusually thick. each strap made of two cords of twisted bamboo sheath, the larger one thicker in the middle and narrowing towards the ends. The second rope is attached to the first in the middle, where it would be passed between the toes. Made of the sheath of Bambusa sp. Lgth. 2' 11".
