Though made in the form of a straight trumpet, this is not a musical instruent, but a device for blowing out the flame under a spirit-kettle. The mouthpiece is simply the continuation of a mainly cylindrical tube and has no throat, cup or back-bore. The body is made up of a succession of tubes and sleeves, and the bell has a long flare, ending in a simple rim. The hall-mark is heavily rubbed.
Although made in the form of small signalling trumpets, these are in fact devices for blowing out the flame under a spirit kettle.
