sample (textiles)

Rectangular piece of embroidered textile, woollen yarns on a linen ground. The motif is octangonal in shape, with two longer sides and six of equal length. The central motif depicts a shallow red and yellow basket of strawberries (?). This is separated from the outer patterning by a thin octagonal frame. Surrounding the basket are two sizes of leaves, worked in three shades of red woollen thread, and highlighted with yellow silk. The leaves are linked together to form a meandering line.
