girdle (belt (clothing: accessories))

A belt, or girdle, known as a chao dai, made of synthetic fibre. The belt itself is made from green braided thread with a large endless knot where the braiding finishes. Below each is some wrapping, using white, light and dark blue threads, and three further green knots. Further down are two circular knots, one set red and yellow, the other red and green. The belt is finished off with three very long tassels on each side, one rust red, the others green, the same colour as the belt itself.

Some of this is incomplete and there may be errors. This part of the website is also still under construction, so there may be some fields repeated or incorrectly formatted information.

The database sometimes uses language taken from historical documents to help research, which may now appear outdated and even offensive. The database also includes information on objects that are considered secret or sacred by some communities.
