Pair of shoes made of hemp in the style of those worn in Sung dynasty. Soles formed by winding the thick cords of twisted fibre into an ellipse and stitching together. Uppers of narrower single plied lengths rising vertically from sole and looped around two horizontal lengths of the twine. These are pulled through loops in two similar lengths going round the back of the ankle so as to be secured in front of it. The toe area has a denser strip of horizontally wrapped lengths of twine also looped around the pairs of horizontal twine lengths at the top.
