knife box (knife container (food service))

Wooden knife box formed of a back plate which would be secured to a wall, a shorter front plate, which slopes outwards, two side pieces and a strip along the bottom. Intricate, painted carving on the front plate of two pairs of birds facing one another, and geometric patterns. A similar pattern on part of the back plate which is visible, to either side of a large medallion. Inscription on the reverse. Small hole at the top of the back piece.
