carrier (land transport: human powered)

A palm leaf basket with an attached lid. The base and lid are both formed from tightly coiled bunches of palm leaf. On the sides, wider pieces have been used and are coiled in single layers. The shape graduates outwards, so that the top is wider than the base. The lid is attached with twisted fibres that pass through one side and back through the other, forming a handle at the top. The fibre has snapped so the handle is no longer in one piece.
Label: There is an old label attached to the object, roughly ripped from brown paper it reads "Aden, basket for dates, eggs, etc. B4"

Collection Information

These objects are only a part of our collections, of which there are more than 350,000 objects. This information comes from our collections database. Some of this is incomplete and there may be errors. This part of the website is also still under construction, so there may be some fields repeated or incorrectly formatted information.

The database sometimes uses language taken from historical documents to help research, which may now appear outdated and even offensive. The database also includes information on objects that are considered secret or sacred by some communities.
