



Monguor (Tu) woman’s dress ornament obtained at Kumbum monastery(Qinghai province, China). Hangs on front or back. Formed of two long rectangular strips of black cotton fabric joined on the upper surface by a strip of green-patterned cloth half way along, and a piece of maroon corduroy cloth a little higher up. The surface of each strip is decorated with five sections of floral embroidery, chiefly in satin stitch, and a longer red applied panel decorated with eight white appliqué linked Chinese coin designs and horizontal strands of beads, mostly red. This panel is bordered by lengths of embroidery thread in two shades of green stitched to the base with green thread in cross stitch. Each length has a button and loop at the top and a black fringe at the bottom.
