Face carved a from solid block of wood. It has a shield-shaped form, and is provided with a handle, cut from the solid block, on the reverse side. The face is painted and ornamented with geometric designs in polychrome pigments. Native name 'ndu-numba'. House ornament. Provenance: Sepik region, Abelam. An old label attached reads '18. Malmba'
