Wooden cylindrical container made of section of bamboo. The base of the container is black; there is a hole in this section through which a long cord has been passed. From the next nodule in the bamboo the container is coloured red, this section forming the major portion of the container. The neck of the container has been trimmed around the top to make it narrower. An accompanying old display label reads: 'Bamboo vessel with lid; used to hold wine or water. Batak of Sumatra. Presd. Mr E.J. Horniman.'
