textile; sample (textiles)

An embroidered piece of linen textile, part of the back and sleeve of a blouse. The cloth has been cut and a gusset inserted. The selvedges are at the longer sides. Beside the right hand selvedge is a repeating 'S' shaped motif, worked alternately in red (with purple and orange infilling) and orange (with red and green infilling) cotton thread. This patterning is repeated towards the other selvedge and runs parallel to it. The lower hem is overstitched in either red or black cotton thread. [30.8.67/31 is other sleeve of the same blouse.]
