mangle board

Carved mangle board with a long, narrow rectangular undersurface. It is oval in cross-section, and has carved loop handles at either end. The front is carved as a hand raised in oathtaking and, according to Fuller, is a lover's gift. It is covered with much fine carved decoration, including the dates 1765 and an earlier date of 1688 (the 6 being upside down).
