


Acheulean handaxe made of grey-coloured quartzite, collected at Olduvai Gorge in northern Tanzania in the early 1930s and donated to the Horniman by Louis Leakey in 1937. The handaxe is from site HK (Hopwood's Korongo), Bed IV (Lower Palaeolithic, dating to 800,000 - 600,000 years BP (before present).
