hat (clothing: headwear)

Hat for priest, perhaps high-ranking or worn for a special occasion. Circular, the upper portion bulging out and topped with a four-sided metal cross. 8 slightly protruding leaf shapes applied to the lower portion of the hat. Made of gold thread brocade in vegetal and floral designs, though much of the gold has worn off. The hat is divided into eight segments by strips of applied fabric which each have two bands of metal strips running from the crown to the base. Lined. The cross is tarnished. Accompanying display label reads: 'Worn by priests. Greece.'
