Red lacquer circular areca nut container with deep close-fitting lid, simply decorated on the top with 5 concentric bands of decoration (possibly ears of rice) with a double incised linear band around the edge. The sides simply decorated with plain gilt bands and very simple black linear bands on either side of a single band of undulating red line against a black ground. The lid comes right down the side of most of the box, which has a hollow base with black rings decorating the central portion. Outside of lid decorated with unlacquered strips of bamboo.
